Consistent Teaching Methods

Long Multiplication

In our continued drive to reinvigorate  and continually improve the teaching and learning of numeracy across the school, The Mathematics department are implementing a series of new practices that creatively respond to the demands of the new Mathematics curriculum.

We have introduced a variety of competitions aimed at encouraging our eighty teaching staff and our pupils, who come to us from forty six different primaries, to think about numeracy from a collective and shared perspective. The focus is on setting problems that develop a consistent, formal, written approach to a particular skill in mathematics.  Staff’s responses to these challenges will be collated, compared and analysed.  Following this the agreed approach to the key mathematical skill will be used by all staff and students across the school.

We are very keen for our students to take a leading role in developing numeracy in our school.  The pupils themselves will create a video, to be uploaded every fortnight, to highlight the most practical working methods used to solve the variety of mathematically related tasks. They will call these videos 'What a Good One Looks Like', or 'WAGOLL', for short. There will be a link provided to view these videos online.
