Liverpool Counts Quality Mark

On Friday 15th July, West Derby School officially received our Silver Award for the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark at a special event held at the Museum of Liverpool, a beautiful setting on the waterfront.
Liverpool Counts was an initiative set up to challenge negative attitudes towards Numeracy across the city, and the Quality Mark challenged schools to showcase the numeracy involved in all subjects across the curriculum. Our Silver Quality Mark award acknowledged the work the staff at West Derby do to promote numeracy skills, including displays, projects, competitions and events such as our murder mystery themed Maths Party in June. The award also recognised the positive attitude our boys display on a daily basis towards the numeracy they encounter both in school and outside.
Three of our fantastic Year 8 Numeracy Ambassadors Shane, Tobi and Jack, who have been working with our Year 7 pupils to boost confidence in mathematics, were there to accept our award. They were accompanied by Assistant Head Susan Wilkinson and Numeracy Coordinators Louise Buckley and Hussain Handhill.
West Derby School is proud to have taken part in this year’s pilot scheme and we are looking forward to working towards our Gold Award next year!
